Three years and six fashion seasons span between the first collection and today, in which Sankuanz moved from the brand that shook Shanghai Fashion Week to one that incessantly causes turmoil on European Menswear catwalks. From London to Paris, industry circles are churning the hot topic of Sankuanz and its penchant for breaking conformity and tradition in fashion.
Standing on the forefront of fashion, the brand’s owner, Shangguan Zhe, admits he’s actually not an overly fashionable person himself. In fact, he was tired of the traditional path fashion creation had taken, and thus set out to find new ways to make clothing. From his very first season until today, he’s highlighted transboundary art collaborations as a key characteristic of the Sankuanz brand. “Each season you see a lot of unreasonable things, things you don’t consider go well together are actually being brought out together… these things are most likely our doing.”
He flagrantly declares he’s part of the Internet generation of fashion designers, not only is the Internet his source of inspiration, but it’s also his window of opportunity to make interesting collaborations happen.
“The Internet expedites globalisation, it flattens our world. And so it graces genuinely underground youngsters — or you could also say larger groups of people — with the ability to make their voices heard in this world.” Shangguan Zhe believes he’s one of those people, using his own perspective to lead more people towards seeing more of this world.
