STYLE SEEKER
RITCHIE CHAN
Most people think of fashion as something that is either very fast, or very expensive. Ritchie Chan wants to put a new twist on the culture of fashion and design, and also try to extend its definition. He opened an unreasonable store called Triple Major; it’s not only a retail store, but also a design studio and a brand of its own. It is in this place, that Ritchie continues to think about how to break the existing rules and give people opportunities to interact with each other.
In the traditional fashion industry, new collections are launched by season, and sent to stores after fashion and trade shows. As a brand, Triple Major has a theme for each collection, but it doesn’t launch each new range according to season.
Ritchie has two different approaches for his retail stores – his concept stores are designed to mimic something else (people still visit the Triple Major store in Beijing to purchase Chinese medicine because it looks like a pharmacy). Then there’s the store in Shanghai, which has a mixed layout that combines retail, studio and exhibition space. Ritchie is often thinking about new ways to present and collaborate with brands in his store. He always goes against the norms of the fashion industry.
Ritchie Chan is an unreasonable man.
