MAGAZINE LIBRARY FOUNDER
SPENCER CHOU
A hidden basement space on Fuxing South Road in Taipei contains over 20000 magazines from different places and different ages. You could only hear the sound of thumbing through magazines in this cozy reading space and feel the passion for magazines of the founder Spencer Chou.
“When people think of libraries, they don’t think of magazines. Because no one has seen one before.” said Spencer. Boven Magazine Library is a brand-new experiment. At first, many people would misunderstand this place as a mixed cafe, but when they really enter into this place, they would find it’s a place without coffee and books, but only magazines.
Magazines are a very special media, different from books and internet. When you think about magazines from decades ago, because there was no internet yet, creations, inventions and popular culture, they only exist in these print publishings now. Magazines really encapsulate its day and age.
Spencer hopes to create a different space and method for sharing magazines, and more people can see what makes magazines special in this space.
