INDEPENDENT CINEMA FOUNDER
NICO YAN
Setting up an independent cinema in China has been talked for a very long time but never really happened. In a depressed political environment, stating “independent” doesn’t sound very wise. However, Nico Yan, a graphic designer, decided to challenge this difficult area. Cinker Pictures and Cinker Cinemas were founded two years ago By Nico Yan and now have set their feet in Beijing and Shanghai. Compare to traditional cinemas, here you can have exquisite French food and film-themed cocktails, European independent films which never had a chance to show in China and an open-air cinema for a breezy summer. By combining the functions of socializing, film-watching and catering, Cinker builds a multiple entertaining space for everyone. In the future, they plan to invest and support local directors in the independent film industry and offer a stage for more young talents to shine. We believe Nico Yan is an unreasonable person.
