Through a series of podcasts, launched every other day from March 8th, we will share conversations with a diverse range of women from different industry backgrounds, hearing their opinions and insights about what it takes to create in the post-COVID 19 era.

Guests include Christy Liang, founder of the boutique lingerie and home-wear brand “Atelier Intimo”; YuRong, Ph.D. candidate in dermatology of Peking University Health Science Center; Vivian She, founder of the artistic and creative market brand “CommonRare”, with more to be announced in coming weeks.

Through this series, iQiyi and The Unreasonable hope to break the stereotype of lower-tier cities with 8 innovators’ stories that capture the striving spirit of this new age.

The Unreasonable · Out of Focus is weekly released on iQiyi documentary channel, with the first episode launches on 19th November.

Anomaly Shanghai in partnership with Unreasonable Studios
launches a documentary that delves into the increasingly important topic of sustainability. Over the last few years, awareness of sustainability has increasingly entered the mainstream consciousness in China, driven most by the decision of the Shanghai government to mandate a system of garbage separation.

For The Sustainability Issue, The Unreasonable partnered with Shi Yan, a comedian and one of
China’s top talk show hosts.Through the film, Shi Yan explores what living a Zero Waste lifestyle could mean, along the way getting advice from different entrepreneurs and organizations: from food delivery giants like Ele.me, to public welfare projects like Pick-up China; B Corp enterprises like Bottle Dream and furniture megastore IKEA.

As the idea of sustainability rolls out across the China, The Unreasonable organized 10 offline events to further address the topic by documentary screening, second hand exchange party, Sustainability panel…in different cities such as Beijing,Shanghai,Shenzhen,Wuhan,Guangzhou.The documentary will be showcased in the exhibition of ShenZhen Design Society from Jan 2020 to the end of the year.

The Unreasonable follows Michele Aboro, as she now runs her own boxing gym in Shanghai, while also exploring the uphill journey it took to get to where she’s at now. From first learning boxing when the sport was banned for females to becoming an undefeated world champion, from professional athlete to gym owner to philanthropist, and from breast cancer survivor to mother, Michele will break down any barriers life throws her way.

After the screening of the short documentary, “Unreasonable Woman,” Michele Aboro and the director, Dalton Lai, will have a talk and Q&A session.

By showcasing the life of Michele Aboro, we hope everyone can be inspired to find the strength and courage to pursue their dreams.

The Unreasonable Abin worked 10 years in the advertising industry as a creative director. However, he quit in one night and went back to the countryside, to where he grew up. He wants to use his knowledge to help the farmers to grow their business, create job opportunities, and utilizes scientific methods to work. On the other hand, bring ing the true organic food to urban tables. 

On 27th, May, Abin host a talk and tasting session at Cinker Pictures, to share the knowledge of really good food: nature is the best cook. 99% of the delicious food comes from nature,  only 1% is decided by the human.

In this event, attendees got the chance to taste the real organic food, and meet Abin to understand more of “being unreasonable”.

The Unreasonable laid a partnership with WeWork China to host The Unreasonable Talk together. The ambition to is to bring the knowledge to the audience, share the insights of relative industry and encourage more people to be unreasonable.

The first talk we invited our unreasonable Rain Huan to give an introduction to incubating and investment in blockchain industry. Rain Huan is the founder of Atlas Capital and Influence Chain, also the former co-founder of co-working platforms Yun Space and TheMakers.

Rain shared the development of the global blockchain industry from the beginning of 2017 to the present. In addition to the opportunities and challenges of blockchain industry investment, the difference between blockchain projects and traditional equity investments, Rain also shared the insights of the exploration of Internet startups transformation in the blockchain field.

MARCH 8th 2018, SHANGHAI — For the second year running, The Unreasonable has marked International Women’s Day with a provocative piece of content.

Having spoken with many women, they identified that a key barrier to women starting up their own companies, was the fact that they are often forced to make a choice between starting a family or starting a business. Investors will even go so far as to not invest in them if they are concerned that they will not be “fully” committed to the business.

“When we talked to the investors, they were concerned if we were going to have kids,” said Cheng Tingjue, co-founder of All Moving Space that transforms neglected urban space into commercial estates.

“Many companies – especially in the IT industry –  have “wolf culture” and tend to hire men rather than women,” said Diani, founder of Oxygen, an online platform for selective lingerie.

“Gender expectations in China make it tougher for mothers to balance business and family life,” said Sherry Poon, founder of Eco Design Fair.

The unfortunate reality is that as we get older, we are often forced to become ever more reasonable, adapting to the world around us. Meanwhile, our younger selves were much more unreasonable and didn’t see challenges, just possibilities.  To that end, The Unreasonable interviewed many young women who still have that unreasonable spirit, who don’t see gender as a barrier and see opportunities, not obstacles.

The result of those interviews is a short film that reminds and inspires us to be more unreasonable.

Aestheticell Textbook Re-design Project, founded by Lin Tsung Yen, Chang Po-Wei and Swi Chen, collaborates with designers and publishing houses in Taiwan to re-design the textbooks for the kids in Taiwan, trying to incorporate the diverse style of aesthetics in an art museum into the textbooks that kids read every single day.

They believe those who are willing to try and change an existing system are very unreasonable, and these unreasonable people can make the existing society and system progress in the right direction.

The Unreasonable not only discovered Aestheticell in Taiwan, also has brought these textbooks to Shanghai K11, in order to make more kids get the chance to experience and create at this “COLOR YOUR MIND” exhibition.
