CREATIVE TECHNOLOGIST
EDDIE SHI
Nowadays, too much attention is paid to how fancy or cool technology is. As people become absorbed in these superficial values, they also tend not to notice how they’ve become estranged to other people because of it. Eddie believes that technology can be used in a more meaningful way. For him, using “cool” technology is simply a means to convey a message, the message that we need to connect.
With this idea in mind, Eddie founded Seeeklab. “Seeeklab is like a laboratory full of mad scientists, messing around with a bunch of strange and curious things,” he says “we don’t just want to make ‘cool’ devices. We want them to inspire people to feel something. There is no end in chasing the latest technology, so our focus is really on tapping into people’s emotions.”
Their idea is to fill technology with a certain warmth, to create something that fulfils people’s emotional needs. It’s why they created “The Sand Letter”, to bring back handwriting into an age in which everybody quickly punches in words on keyboards. Another project is the “Rain Project”, using illuminant installations to encourage autistic people to interact with others.
Eddie is a true believer of the emotional value of technology, using it to bring humanity back into society. Eddie is an Unreasonable person.
